Kaio Picha is a multidisciplinary visual creative, encompassing roles as a Director, Director of Photography and Producer, currently based in Taipei, Taiwan.
After Demography and Social Geography studies at Charles University in Prague, he pursued an additional year of media studies at the Faculty of Social Sciences.
Shortly after, he moved to the United Kingdom where he graduated from the prestigious Birmingham Institute of Art and Design (BIAD) with a BA (Hons) in Visual Communication – Art Direction.
As a Director, he was honoured with the Muse Creative Awards 2020 Platinum in New York for his work as a director, DoP, co-writer, and co-producer of the short film for the Taiwan Tourism Bureau titled “Penghu: Islands of your Dreams” (2020).
As a Director of Photography, he contributed to the award-winning documentary “Pile of Ghosts” (2021), which was produced, and directed by Austrian conceptual filmmaker Ella Reidel.
Kaio and his production house Plan BE provided production support to German documentary director Marco Willms during the filming of his documentary about Taiwanese politician and heavy metal band leader Fredy Lin, titled “Metal Politics Taiwan” (2018).
As a photographer and photojournalist, Kaio collaborates with the Czech News Agency (CTK) and Associated Press (AP). His photos have been featured in major media outlets such as CNN, Der Spiegel, MSN, ITV and others.
In 2016 and 2023, Kaio received Honorable Mentions at the IPA International Photo Awards for his photos from the Sunflower Revolution and the State visit of the President of the Czech Parliament, Marketa Pekarova, in Taiwan.
Kaio has served as a jury and mentor at the international advertising festival ADSTARS in Busan, Korea, in 2017, 2018, and 2022, and as a judge for the WINA 2023 Awards in Dubai.
